80 Strand

80 Strand sits amongst some of London’s most prestigious cultural institutions, including the National Gallery and the Southbank Centre, located on the riverside. The building is home to global organisations such as Condé Nast, McKinsey & Company and Samsung.

Originally built in 1932, 80 Strand's distinctive Art Deco architecture reflects the elegance of the era. Over the years it has undergone significant refurbishment, introducing elevated workspaces and enhanced sustainability features while carefully preserving its architectural heritage.

Also known as Shell Mex House, the building has changed ownership several times throughout its history. However, one iconic feature remains unchanged. Nicknamed “Big Benzene,” the building’s clockface is the largest in the UK, surpassing the diameter of Big Ben’s famous clock by over half a metre.

The Brief

For this collaboration, the brief was to create a uniform that would stand out within the reception space while complementing the building’s interiors. We used colour intentionally to create visual impact. The female front-of-house uniform features a beautifully tailored dusty pink wool jacket, while the male uniform incorporates a sage green herringbone wool.

The Outcome

The finished uniform reflects the building’s innovative character while ensuring the front-of-house team maintains a polished and approachable appearance.

Both fabrics are 100% wool sourced from a British mill, giving the garments an authentic connection to British tailoring heritage. The silhouettes are tailored yet modern, creating a refined look that complements the building’s nature-inspired spaces, including the tranquil Glasshouse Gardens, which sit at the heart of the building’s transformation.
